Spring is my favorite season. The birds sing more, the trees come alive, the air is fresh and cool, and if I am lucky then the mosquitoes are still not around. The Blogging Business Artisans have a Monthly Challenge and this month we were encouraged to capture the essence of this season and how we feel about it.

April Showers….mean dancing in the rain with the best parts of you.

In my case, it was watching my daughter dance around yesterday in her wild attire: Garden gloves, sequined purse draped across her chest, Disney headband, and some kind of fluffy outfit from grandma.

The best moments

I colored this adorable inked drawing with watercolor and different inks. I have listed this in the Artful Rising shop as a flat card with envelope. You can choose to frame the 4 X 6 print as I did.

QUESTION: What is your favorite thing about Spring?

danger in a tree

The wind carried the sound of angry birds overhead as a chill came over me. The tiny hairs on my arms seemed electrified as the cacophony of screeching mingled with swaying tree limbs. I knew something was wrong.

I slowly turned my head upward and saw about 30 birds weaving among the pecan trees in the backyard. They darted back and forth with the beating of their wings making as much noise as their screams. Finally, I saw him. A killer was among them.

Very calmly I spoke. “What are you doing there?” The sound of my voice did what the birds did not. I grabbed his attention and his steely eyes looked at  me through the tree limbs. As I saw him maneuver around a large branch I asked again, “What are you doing?” Now I was worried but not for the birds.

I watched, almost fascinated as he descended the tall tree. I could tell he was not at ease but he kept checking to see if I was there waiting.

he was up at the top

And then he came up to me and rubbed on my leg and meowed. I just don’t know if I will ever get used to Harry Potter’s penchant for climbing trees for birds.

coming down

Seven things Harry Potter thought when he got down:

  1. Lady, you got me down so you better have something good for me to eat. A treat preferably.
  2. I just had my mani-pedi. When is this lady going to do something about those toes?
  3. I am not moving. You can walk around me.
  4. Feed me. Now.
  5. Scratch me. Now.
  6. Feed me. Now. Jeesh. Doesn’t she know she is here to serve me?
  7. Did you see that bird?

QUESTION: What is your favorite treat?

This true life story is for Jenny Matlock’s alphabet series for the letter V and for Mama Kat’s workshop on what my cat thinks.

I like Mondays. They are like birthdays with the previous week’s activities freshly wrapped and gifted in our memory bank; ready to teach, inspire, and motivate us for the new week. So, I started It’s a Wrap Link Party as a way to share one of your posts from the past week. It does not have to be a tutorial or a recipe; simply something that you would like to share with others.

Hope everyone is safe after the rounds of storms, hail, and tornadoes. At times I feel as if Mother Nature is angry at us or trying to get our attention. It rained and actually became a bit chilly yesterday after church. I helped start up a new Sunday School class which had me a tiny bit nervous–I forgot to ask for prayer requests at one point–but I am glad that I stepped up and took action despite my fears. Do you do that? Look past your fear and do? Maybe seeing this sunrise helped put me in the right frame of mind for being called out of my comfort zone…

a gift

Maysem of Ode to Inspiration went out of her zone and used green on a project. She shows us how to she painted trays, used a Silhouette (do you have one?), created fab paper flowers, and arranged it all on the wall! Oh, oh, oh! I want to do this, too. (check her blog to see it all together).

see the final result--I want those flowers

If you like checking out tutorials then head on over to Karima’s Crafts. She personalized a simple pillow which turned out cute; but I like how she took the time to get all digital and create visual aids.

Lori Hairston does not know this but it is because of her blog that I have been spending time trying to learn how to make cards (I even just purchased my first clear stamp and block!–what kind of crafter am I?).  I am so fascinated with all of the detail Lori puts into her work and how each one she shares is filled with charm and cuteness. I don’t think I have the patience to do what she does but in a way I actually find it relaxing to just glue, color, and search for do-dads.

attention to detail matters

I don’t know if it is the gorgeous photos or the way that Kathe with an E tells the story but I read this post three times. Maybe it was understanding what it is like to go through drought, or have heat at one moment followed suddenly with freezing temperatures.

Are you concerned with blog or shop traffic? Rose of Random Creative created a post with different ways that links can increase traffic. Pinterest, Stumble, and the button to this link party on other blogs link back to my blog and I see the traffic from those sources. Read her article and see if you have even heard of some of the other ways.

This was not what Deb linked to but I wanted to show off something she created. Storybeader created a stamp of an umbrella. I am too lazy to figure out how to make my own stamps even though I love using them.

hand made stamp

I created an art portfolio for one of my nieces but I like the one Nancy of One Loop Knitter created better. The colors pop and her version is so much grown-up than princess pink.

Be sure to look into the GIVEAWAY I am hosting on the BBA team blog. It is for a prompted journal, hand-stamped keychain, and participation in a coming workshop.

I want to share customer photos. Isn’t it great when someone lets you know that they like your work? What touched me about the email from Niki is that they are about to adopt four kiddos and the pattern will help her out with clothing. Adoption is such an incredible gift to give others.

And Ashley has a shop on etsy. She is a mom of two kids and her creating for them led her to open her shop. Maybe she will decide to add skirts to the mix!

And I want to send out a heart felt congratulations to Edi. One of her items (a brand new item by the way) was featured on the front page of etsy. I have purchased several things from Edi and I love her work so it is very exciting to see her business blossom.

QUESTION: What are you creating?

Yesterday, I read a post from Ann on being balanced. She was talking about her photos but I read more into that post. There are so many moments when I feel unbalanced as if I am precariously walking a tight rope across a great chasm of vast valleys and sun-hot deserts (not desserts–that would be okay).

As I drove my daughter to school this morning, I grabbed my cell to take a photo of the sunrise. The clouds look broken but to my heart the sky is an unbroken as my love for my babies and my faith of where we are going. One of my favorite things is to witness how my children grow and love and notice.

good morning!

Isn’t it wonderful to be given little gifts like this when we least expect it?

QUESTION: What beauty have you witnessed today?

I am linking up to Jenny Matlock for the letter U and Mama Kat on a favorite thing.

I hope everyone had a great Easter weekend. My daughter walked into church yesterday in her super fluffy dress and since I misplaced her coordinating headband with a bunny ear headband (at her request). The kids are always a source of humor.

My son kept asking about carrots yesterday; I wish I had thought of this great idea by The Moody Fashionista to create a healthy carrot snack for him.

Cherished Treasures created a precious piece of art using an egg carton. This would be a great project for anyone with scraps lying around and a fun way to recycle!

Cheryl of Sew Can Do used her embroidery machine to add to the Easter attire and I am loving the cute apron. She created it on the fly and shows what you can just by messing around.

I have never used clayboard but FolkHaven says she scratched her designs into the dark form which showed the light background. Her work is incredible.

I like stuffed bell peppers and I have liked quinoa and I found the recipe by His Frugal Servant an interesting take on a healthy food. I just wish that I did not hear so many different ways to pronounce ‘quinoa’.

a healthy take

Last year, I picked up an antique mahogany mantle from an attic sale benefiting the local historical foundation. I could not figure out how to use it in the house (we don’t have a fire place) but thanks to my dad found a home for it this weekend. I had to share My Favorite Find’s mantle photo for that happy day at a project done for now:)

I want to thank everyone for linking up last week–there were a lot of great things I wanted to feature so please be sure to check out the entries if you did not already.

Out of something involving thorns we have incredible life, hope, and love.

Many blessings to everyone as we celebrate Easter.
