I have several pillow forms and I like to change out the fabrics. I prefer to make pillow covers because with two toddlers they need to be laundered more than I care to admit.

I created three hand rolled roses following the steps from the rolled roses hair clip tutorial. I cut three strips 1.5″ wide and about 20″ long.

I tied a knot in one end.

And slowly begin to twist and turn around the knot.

Glue or sew as you twist and turn the rose.

Sew the end onto the bottom. I like to make several stitches around the rose to ensure it stays secure.

Make the remaining roses for your pillow.

Attach the roses onto the front of your top piece. My pillow form is 14″ square so I cut one piece that was 15″ square (the front) and two other pieces that were 15″x10″ each (the back pieces).

Take one of the 15″x10″ and on one of the long sides turn under 1/4″, press, turn under 1/4″ again and press. Pin. Repeat for the other 15×10 piece.

Sew these two edges.

Lay the front piece with the roses facing up and lay right side down one of the envelope backs. The sewn edge needs to be over the main part of the top fabric.

Then lay the second envelope back right side down. Securely pin all around the four sides. Make sure the envelope backs are flat and not curled away from the edge. Sew with a 1/4″ seam allowance.

Turn right side out and press.

Figure out where your new pillow can go in your house!

I just love this vintage chair I found at a local thrift shop.

The pillow turned out beautifully! I always find it fascinating to see how something was made even if I never actually make that item. Pillow covers are a great idea, even for those of us without toddlers.

I love those roses on that pillow! I think I could make a rose but as for sewing the pillow, uh, no. I just have never been able to sew for some reason which is probably a good thing or else I'd have a squizillion purses! :)
